Senator Dave Rowley was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He and his wife Kris have lived in Spirit Lake for 28 years. They have four children and two grandchildren. Senator Rowley’s business background includes entrepreneurship, real estate, and property and casualty insurance. His insurance career included various roles such as company underwriting and marketing, insurance agent, agency principal, and consultant. Senator Rowley is now retired.
He is the past president of various boards including the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa, the Pearson Lakes Art Center, the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary, and the Spirit Lake Community Schools Foundation as well as volunteering on other non-profits and his church. Senator Rowley has been recognized for his voting record by the Republican State Platform Champion Committee (2023) and was inducted into the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. He was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2021 in a special election and re-elected to his first full term in 2022.
